Are You Psychic?

It might be hard to predict what any one person will do, but it’s easy to predict what a group of people will do. Students often look at me like they think I’m reading their minds. Sometimes, when teaching a skill, I’ll feed the ball and shout, “Yes!” before they’ve even hit the ball, because I can tell they’re going to do it right.
I’m not sure how to define psychic. I do find that the more carefully I observe what’s going on around me, the more likely I am to feel like I know what’s going to happen next. Great tennis players anticipate where their opponent will hit the ball, and move to intercept it. Sometimes it’s as simple as knowing your spouse would like a cold drink, and bringing it to them before they get it themselves. Careful observation and attention can provide enough information to predict the future.
Maybe the definition of “psychic” is just someone who is better at paying attention than the rest of us. There are strong arguments for believing that the answers are already out there just waiting for us to take advantage of them. And we’re all practically radiating clues and information that indicate how we feel and what we want.
So watch and listen as carefully as you can, and imagine what you would be thinking in your subject’s situation. You, and they, will be surprised how much you know about what they’re thinking.
